Plan to transform city's bus service
Sunday, July 6th, 2008
The Borneo Post

IF our city is to see a thorough revamp of its public transport system, an efficient bus service is definitely a top priority although this goes beyond just shopping for new buses.

There are new routes to consider, old ones to re-place, bus lanes to allocate, terminals to build … and many more. Presently, there are more than 150 city buses plying some 50 routes.

The Kuching City Bus Services Sdn Bhd (KCBS) has come up with a plan to transform the current moribund system into what hopefully will be a sustainable operation.

Disabled hope for 'friendly' budget

KUALA LUMPUR: The disabled are hoping that the 2009 Budget, to be unveiled on Friday, will be disabled-friendly.
They hope the government will provide an allocation to make transport and public amenities more accessible to them.

Barrier-Free Environment and Accessible Transport Group (Beat) coordinator Christine Lee said most public transport and amenities were "unfriendly to the disabled".

Lee, a wheelchair user, said the government should ensure that buses purchased from next year would have low floors while non-step vehicles would be equipped with ramps and other disabled and elderly-friendly features.

RapidKL silent on rep’s request

By OH ING YEEN

FOR the past one month, Selangor DAP secretary and Kampung Tunku assemblyman Lau Weng San has been trying to fix an appointment with the management of public transport operators RapidKL and Syarikat Prasarana Bhd.

Speaking at a press conference held at the Selangor DAP headquarters in Taman Paramount, Petaling Jaya, Lau said RapidKL “just poured cold water” on his request, by telling him to go through the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ).

Lau is wondering why they are not respecting his office as an elected state assemblyman.

The crime rate in Penang is on the rise.
Notice that there are hardly any policeman could be seen patrolling on the street. When they patrol, they patrol in police cars. Wondering how much could they see when they patrol in police cars rather than on their feet. Taxpayers' money has been wasted unnecessary. No wonder, the policemen in our country carry big belly around their waste line with them.

Cheaper fuel for the by-election ?

The PM declared that there will not be any fuel cut-then this was done yesterday. (see report below). The same thing happened when the fuel price was first hiked few months ago. He had promised not to raise fuel price before. So when the PM promise something look out for the opposite..Perhaps not just the fuel price was cut -but also the PM's credibility! When the petrol price was `incidentally' cut when a by-election is going on, then what is the possiblity of the fuel price is restored after the election -especially if there is another hike in international fuel price? But the inflated food prices, bus charges are maintained.
